Before & After Acoustic Treatment

Measured, Not Assumed

The following measurements were taken in the same room, same speaker position, and same measurement position, before and after applying proper acoustic treatment.

No electronic EQ or calibration was applied.
The difference you see is purely the effect of acoustic treatment.

Understanding the Measurement Shown (RT60 & Decay)

RT60 represents the time it takes for sound energy to decay by 60 dB inside a room.
In home cinema and critical listening spaces:

  • Too long decay → muddy sound, poor dialogue clarity

  • Too short decay → dry, lifeless sound

  • Uneven decay across frequencies → tonal imbalance and listening fatigue

A well-treated room shows controlled and consistent decay across frequencies.

BEFORE Acoustic Treatment

(Untreated / Poorly Controlled Room)

What the Measurement Shows

  • RT60 ≈ 0.64 seconds

  • Excessively long decay, especially in low and mid frequencies

  • Energy persists for a long time after the sound stops

  • Uneven decay behaviour across the spectrum

What This Means Audibly

  • Bass sounds slow, boomy, and overlapping

  • Dialogue lacks clarity

  • Sound feels loud but not controlled

  • Effects and music smear together

  • Listening fatigue over longer sessions

In this condition, even the best speakers cannot perform correctly, because the room dominates the sound.

AFTER Acoustic Treatment

(Properly Designed & Treated Room)

What the Measurement Shows

  • RT60 reduced to ≈ 0.30 seconds

  • Faster and more uniform decay across frequencies

  • Excess energy is absorbed and controlled

  • Clean, predictable acoustic behaviour

What This Means Audibly

  • Bass becomes tight and articulate

  • Dialogue is clearer and easier to understand

  • Sound stops when it should stop

  • Better separation between effects, music, and vocals

  • Comfortable listening even at higher volumes

This is the foundation required for reference-level sound reproduction.

The Real Takeaway

Acoustic treatment alone achieved:

  • ~50% reduction in decay time

  • Massive improvement in clarity and control

  • A room that now supports high-performance audio

No DSP, no EQ, no calibration can replace this step.

Why Acoustic Treatment Comes First

Acoustic treatment:

  • Controls reflections

  • Reduces resonances

  • Manages decay time

  • Makes the room predictable

Only after this stage does any electronic processing make sense.

Final Words

These measurements clearly demonstrate that:

Great sound does not start with equipment — it starts with the room.

At Great Sound Acoustics, our focus is on measurable acoustic performance, not assumptions or cosmetic solutions.

In this Project We completely used GreatSound Acoustics and Project done by SMART Home Cinema, Madurai, Tamil Nadu. INDIA.
